Best Laptops for Lawyers in 2021: Reviews
Now let’s find out more about each of the recommended models above and see why we consider them the best.
Apple MacBook Pro – Editor’s Choice
It’s almost cliché to recommend an Apple product these days, especially when it comes to highbrow professions, but the truth is that nothing beats a MacBook.
Not only that it is indeed a very good laptop, delivering an extremely solid performance, but it also comes with that wow-factor, than brand impact that sends a clear message: you’re not a freeloader, you mean business.
Maybe it shouldn’t be like that, but the truth is that brands matter and for lawyers, nothing looks better than that Apple logo…
And you are getting a solid laptop computer for the money, not just a shiny device that does nothing.
Powered by 8GB of RAM and the proprietary Apple M1 Chip, its CPU is almost three times faster than previous models, while the graphics card is 5 times faster. In other words, this Apple MacBook Pro is blazing fast!
For example, it wakes instantly from sleep! Pretty cool!
It’s small and portable: with a display of 13.3-inch, it is very easy to carry around, while still big enough to offer a solid working environment. The keyboard is comfortable and typing on it feels good.
While it doesn’t run many Windows-exclusive programs, it is the perfect choice if you already have an iPhone and/or an iPad, as you can easily sync them.
You only get 512GB of storage, which is a bit on the low side these days, but it’s still enough to keep you going, especially since you will use it mostly as a business laptop and not for storage of your personal photos and whatnot.
It only comes with two additional ports – both Thunderbolt, so older, traditional USBs won’t work but most likely you won’t need them.
The display is also pretty amazing for the little fellow, offering a crystal-clear image quality with amazing colors – Apple always were at the top in this area.
And to make things even better, the battery life is up to 20 hours on regular usage, so you don’t have to worry too much about it running out of power when you need it the most.
All in all, the MacBook Pro is our top choice as the best laptop for lawyers. It has all the Pros and except for a small con coming from the somewhat limited storage, you have no reasons to complain about it!
MSI Creator 15 – Best Windows Laptop
If you prefer a Windows laptop, the MSI Creator is your best choice, offering the best performance on our list.
While it doesn’t look as nice and sleek as the MacBook Pro, it is larger and extremely fast, so it does a great job at keeping things running at optimum speed.
Powered by a whooping 32GB of RAM and the 10th Gen. Intel Core i7-10875H processor, this laptop is blazing fast.
It also has a dedicated graphics card that makes running the most resource-demanding programs a breeze: the GeForce RTX 2070 Super GPU is one of the latest and the best on the market, so you will have no reasons to complain.
Finally, the storage space is just perfect: 1TB on a super-fast SSD, making everything load as fast as possible. You will never lose a fraction of a second with this laptop, no matter what you do!
This is a larger laptop, with a 15.6″ display (like most laptops out there). It has a very impressive 4K display, one that will make all photos and videos look as crisp as possible. You won’t miss any details on this display!
It also has a touchscreen display with a 180-degrees hinge, meaning that you can lie the screen flat on a table so that somebody in front of you can also see the screen. This could be very useful during meetings with clients!
In terms of connectivity, it also offers a varied amount of ports and slots: HDMI, USB-C, Thunderbolt, USB 3.2, but also a card reader.
The battery life is great also: this model has an impressive 99.9 WHr battery, offering easily several hours of usage on a single charge (or more, depending on your activities).
All in all, this is our top recommendation for a Windows-based laptop.
HP Pavilion 15 – Best Budget
If you’re a law student and you want a good laptop, or even if you’re a lawyer who’s just getting started or doesn’t really need the fastest and latest laptop around, this HP model is a great choice!
With a good, minimalist, yet impressive design, it is good enough to let you perform your most important tasks without a problem, without leaving a hole in your budget.
It offers a solid performance thanks to its 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7, paired up with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.
It doesn’t have a dedicated GPU, so as long as you don’t need one (for gaming, photo or video editing and anything alike), it should do really well.
It is true that the storage is not amazing – but it’s similar to what the MacBook Pro offers and in all honesty, it should be more than enough if you don’t plan to store a ton of photos and especially videos on it. If you do, we wrote an article about the best laptops for storing photos – you might want to check that one out.
Back to our budget pick, it has a 15.6″ full HD display with good image quality, but also a thin and light design that make it very portable and easy to carry around.
It offers up to 8 hours of usage on a single charge, as well as a varied set of ports, from an older USB 2.0 to a newer USB 3 port, but also USB Type-C, HDMI and a microSD card slot.
All in all, for the price, it is a really good laptop that lawyers and law students alike will definitely appreciate.
ASUS Zenbook 15
Now, if you want a laptop that has at least a feature that most other laptops don’t, the Zenbook is your choice. It will surely draw attention from colleagues and clients thanks to its proprietary ASUS ScreenPad.
Basically, ASUS took the traditional TouchPad of a laptop and turned it into an additional display. You can still use it as a touchpad, but also as an additional 5.65″ screen that is perfect for multitasking or taking notes.
Yes, you can write with your finger on it, for example, to take notes, but also quickly navigate between apps, use it as a numpad and much more. A pretty interesting feature that will most likely be adopted by others pretty soon – but right now you could be among the first to use it.
However, it’s not just the ScreenPad that makes it a good buy. It also offers a solid performance, with just the right specifications.
It is powered by Inte’s 10th generation i7-10510U processor and 16GB RAM, but it also has a dedicated GPU, the GeForce GTX 1650.
While this is not as impressive as the MSI Creator 15, it is still a very solid setup that allows you to perform even the more intensive and resource demanding tasks, like playing modern games or running video editing apps.
You only get 512GB of storage from this model, but we already talked about this number and the fact that it’s still enough for a lawyer – and any type of user, actually.
It also offers extensive connectivity, with all the options that you probably need: USB-C, traditional USB, HDMI and SD card reader.
It has a 15.6″ display with a superb 92% screen-to-body ration, making it look really good. The image quality is also very solid on the laptop’s screen as it supports 4K UHD resolution.
All in all, a very solid laptop that has some additional bells and whistles that make it a good choice for lawyers who want to impress and prove that they are keeping up with the latest in the tech world.
These would be our recommended laptops for lawyers. We are sure that you will love any of the products that you choose and even though you have various other options out there, we think you don’t really need anything else.
But again – just pick the one you like better. They’re all good.
